Northern Above Bar
Southampton
The proposed design by award winning Assael architecture is based around two contemporary oblique towers. Forming a city landmark, it is proposed that these towers would be up to fifteen storeys high facing the park, but this could be subject to change following further discussions with the relevant authorities. Built from the highest quality materials that epitomises a City Loft Developments scheme, the development and would sit comfortably in its surroundings respecting the Grade II* listed Guildhall opposite whilst also responding to the scale of the adjacent East Park. This contemporary landmark scheme has been designed to take advantage of the latest in sustainable technology and renewable energy and includes the use of a geothermal district heating system. This heating system will draw hot water from a borehole and use for heating. This would be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom, outside London.
The proposals from City Loft Developments for this site form part of a larger Masterplan by Southampton City Council to regenerate Northern Above Bar and create a cultural quarter within the city.
Southampton’s proposed new Arts Complex would not only be a spectacular cultural attraction for the region, but would also play a vital role in creating a cultural quarter within the city that regenerates and brings alive the Above Bar area. World-class exhibitions, a full range of South Asian arts, outstanding resources for film-makers and a brand new performing arts venue would be provided at the complex, to be housed on the ground and first floors of the iconic, landmark towers opposite Guildhall Square that are being proposed by City Loft Developments.
This scheme would be a flagship development and would help cement Southampton’s reputation as the leading city in the South East
